propane safety aerial liftPropane, commonly referred to as liquefied petroleum gas, is often used to fuel forklifts. The substance is colorless, nontoxic, and virtually odorless, which may make it seem harmless. Yet, if propane safety measures are not followed, the consequences can be dire.

Safe handling of a forklift propane tank is a must. By teaching your workers about forklift propane tank safety, you can verify that all lift fuel containers are stored and maintained properly. Plus, you can comply with myriad forklift propane safety requirements.

1. Familiar with the user manual of the liquefied gas forklift, and have a comprehensive understanding and understanding of the liquefied gas conversion system.
During the use of the forklift, do not park the forklift near a heat source or fire source, such as open flames, burning cigarette butts, sparks, electric welding, machines and electrical equipment that can generate high temperatures; do not manually adjust or modify the liquefied gas conversion equipment; regular maintenance and inspection should be carried out on schedule; keep vigilance, and find any leakage or abnormal phenomenon should be dealt with immediately.

2. Reasonably start the forklift propane.
If the dual-fuel uses liquefied gas, confirm whether the manual valve on the cylinder is fully opened before working. When the forklift is idle for a long time, the manual valve should be closed; when starting, it is not necessary to step on the accelerator, and the dual-fuel system must turn the switch. LPG position, after starting, especially in cold regions, it is better to warm up the car for two or three minutes, let the cooling water system of the internal combustion engine warm up before driving, so as to ensure that the warm water can flow into the carburetor to accelerate the vaporization.

3. Pay attention to the fuel switching method.
For dual-fuel forklifts, the switch should be made when the forklift is stationary, and cannot be switched while driving; when the gasoline is converted to liquefied gas, let the internal combustion engine continue to run at idle speed, and the switch can be turned to the neutral position at this time to allow The accumulated gasoline in the carburetor burns out until the flame is turned off, then turn the fuel switch to the liquefied gas position and restart; when switching from liquefied gas to gasoline, you can directly turn the switch to the gasoline position without stopping at the neutral position. At this time, pay attention to pulling out the cable. When the dual-fuel system mainly burns liquefied gas, it is necessary to keep at least 1/4 of the oil in the gasoline tank for emergencies. And occasionally need to burn gasoline to ensure that the gasoline system does not fail due to idle for too long, to prevent the embrittlement of the oil pipeline, it is recommended to burn 10 kg of gasoline per month.

4. Correctly replenish liquefied gas
There are two ways to refill, one is to change the bottle; the other is to directly inflate on the forklift. When refilling or changing bottles, it must be outdoors to ensure good ventilation, and the safety should meet the requirements of local fire protection standards. The forklift must be stopped and turned off, and the driver must leave the driver's seat. Fireworks, heat sources, and fire sources are strictly prohibited around. Handle cylinders carefully and do not bump, throw, or roll on the ground. The gas filling personnel must monitor the whole process during the gas filling process and must not leave the site. When inflating, put the air gun on the filling valve on the bottle and screw it tightly. At the same time, unscrew the 80% liquid level hole on the bottle to start air filling. When white mist emerges from the 80% liquid level hole, stop the gas filling immediately, screw the 80% liquid level hole tightly closed, and check whether the indication of the liquid level gauge is correct.

Forklift Propane Tank FAQs
1. How long does a tank last?

A typical propane tank lasts six to eight hours. The length of time that the tank can be used varies based on the size of a forklift’s engine.

2. When does a tank need to be replaced?

Tanks of 100 lbs. or less have an expiration date of 12 years from when they were manufactured. They must be inspected and requalified every five to 10 years.

3.Can tanks be stored anywhere at a worksite?

No. Tanks must be stored in a safe location to limit the risk of explosions, spills, and other issues that otherwise hamper workplace safety.

The tire is the only connection point between the forklift and the road. It not only bears the entire weight of the forklift and the weight of the cargo, but also responds to driving actions such as steering, acceleration and braking, and absorbs the impact of the road on the vehicle. Especially in winter when the ground is slippery, tires are crucial to driving safety and cannot be ignored!
