Low temperature weather has higher requirements for the maintenance of electric forklifts. The proper maintenance and handling of forklift batteries is imperative to their longevity. There’s a right way and a wrong way to maintain and handle forklift batteries and doing it properly will ensure your investment is maximized.

Autumn and winter seasons, routine inspection

When winter comes, it is necessary to check the forklift and the battery in time to see if the connectors of the battery harness are loose and aging, so as to avoid the insufficient power supply of the vehicle electric system due to battery leakage.

Indoor charging, avoid low temperature

The lithium battery has a temperature detection function, and it cannot be charged normally in a low temperature environment. If there is no indoor charging condition, it should be charged in time after the vehicle is used, and the residual heat of the battery should be fully utilized when it is discharged, and it should be charged in the sun immediately after parking to increase the charging capacity and avoid lithium precipitation.

Charge as you go, shallow discharge and shallow charge

In winter, the activity of lithium batteries decreases, which is very easy to cause overdischarge and overcharge, which will affect the service life of the battery in the slightest, and cause a combustion accident in severe cases. Therefore, in winter, more attention should be paid to charging with shallow discharge and shallow charging, and do not park the vehicle for a long time with the gun inserted all the time to avoid overcharging.

Replenish "energy" in time

Lithium batteries should be kept fully charged in winter, which can prolong battery life. The battery should be fully charged before use, and if it is often used without being fully charged, the battery will produce a "memory", which will affect its mileage and also reduce the service life of the battery.
If the forklift is not used for a long time in winter (more than two weeks), it is recommended to charge the battery once a month to charge the battery to about 50%. If the forklift is left for a long time, it will cause the battery to fail. It is recommended to remove the battery and place it in a warmer place to prevent the battery from being damaged by freezing. When the weather temperature is too low, it is best to bring the electric forklift and battery to the factory area for charging or parking, avoid leaving the electric forklift outside overnight or charging in a low temperature environment, and ensure that the battery can be fully charged.

Lithium battery "thaw" charging

Lithium-ion batteries should avoid excessive discharge. In winter, when the ambient temperature is below zero, 30% of the power is reserved. When it is in a low-temperature state and cannot be charged, the vehicle should be placed in a warmer environment. After the temperature rises, it can be charged with a small current. Afterwards the current will return to normal.

Use the original authentic charger

Please use the original charger when charging. Using a low-quality charger may cause damage to the lithium battery pack, or even cause a fire. If the charger cannot be used normally, it is recommended to contact the official to purchase a regular charger to ensure the charging quality.

The tire is the only connection point between the forklift and the road. It not only bears the entire weight of the forklift and the weight of the cargo, but also responds to driving actions such as steering, acceleration and braking, and absorbs the impact of the road on the vehicle. Especially in winter when the ground is slippery, tires are crucial to driving safety and cannot be ignored!
